Course Map

The Hammond 5K course takes in the beautiful scenery of Wolf Lake.  Runners start at the northeast corner of the Pavilion and head north along the lake by a scenic bike path for approximately 1.5 miles, before returning south to finish back at the Pavilion.

We utilize a wave start at our 5K events to divide runners into groups that start a few minutes apart. Runners will be directed to start lining up for the wave start at 2:30PM so that the 5K can begin promptly at 3PM. Coaches will direct teams to their appropriate wave location.

The 5K participants will pass water stops on mile 1 and on mile 2. Cheer Teams will also be placed along the course to cheer on the girls and 5K participants.

Finishing times vary of course, but our fastest runners will complete the run in about 25 minutes. Most runners will fall between 30-45 minutes We will be sweeping the course at one hour from the starting time to ensure all runners have returned to the starting area.

More Details About the Location/Route

The race will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Highland High School Athletic Complex, 2941 41st Street. The course will begin on the corner of 41st and Farmer Drive and continue on the streets and bike path, ending on the High School Track.

What Happens During Pre-5K Activities?

The girls should arrive at 8:00 am for pre-5k activities. Upon their arrival the first thing they are to do is to check-in with their team. There will be a DJ, face painting, and hair coloring. At 9:30am all girls are to report back to their tents/area at the team set-ups. Because of the amount of runners, girls will be assigned to a wave by team.

Wave Starts Explained

At 9:30am all girls should report back to their tent/team area. At 9:35am we will begin line-up for the wave start. Teams line up on the side of the area closest the race start. From there we will dismiss the teams by row/wave to go to the starting line. There will be Wave Marshals leading each group. Teams will walk as a wave to line up on Farmer Drive for the race to start at 10am. Each wave will be dismissed in 3 minute increments.

Where should I park?

Parking is a bit of a challenge each year. Please stress to everyone that this year there will be NO STREET PARKING ALLOWED. If you park on the streets you will run the risk of being towed at the owner’s expense. A list and map of approved locations to park will be provided prior to race day. Locations not on the High School grounds will be able to use a shuttle bus system to travel to and from the race.

Can I bring my dog or pet?

For safety, all furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day! All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.
